Vitesse Semiconductor Posts $4.2-Million Loss

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. said it lost $4.2 million in its fiscal third quarter, contrasted with a $53,000 profit posted in the same period last year.

The Camarillo-based manufacturer of gallium arsenide computer circuits for commercial and military uses posted sales of $7 million for the quarter ended June 30, down 28% from $9.8 million a year earlier. Vitesse said it experienced a decline in its high-performance computer business in the past year.

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, Vitesse incurred a loss of $15.9 million, contrasted with a $1.2-million profit in the same period the year before. Nine-month revenues fell 33% to $18.4 million from $27.4 million a year earlier.
