Frederic O. Glover, 81, founder of the Stanford News Service and aide to four of the university’s presidents. A native of Washington, D.C., Glover was educated at European boarding schools, Stanford and the University of Hamburg. He began his career by writing for newspapers--often from Europe--including the San Francisco Argonaut, Redwood City Tribune and Burlingame Advance. After serving in Navy intelligence during World War II, he began handling Stanford news in 1946. He was assistant to presidents from 1952 until his retirement in 1977 with the title secretary to the university emeritus. After he retired, Glover wrote stories for the Stanford Observer about the university’s overseas campuses and started the oral history project of the Stanford Historical Society.
