COLLEGE BASKETBALL / PACIFIC 10 ROUNDUP : Arizona Gains a Small Measure of Revenge, 89-63
Damon Stoudamire scored 16 points to lead four Arizona players in double figures Saturday night as the No. 13 Wildcats defeated Santa Clara, 89-63, and avenged an upset in the first round of last season’s NCAA tournament.
Santa Clara (4-3) got 17 points from Pete Eisenrich and 16 from Steve Nash. Khalid Reeves had 15 points, reserve Dylan Rigdon 12 and Joseph Blair 10 for Arizona (6-0)
Reeves, Reggie Geary and Stoudamire made three-point shots in the opening 2:06 as the Wildcats took a 9-1 lead. Arizona extended that advantage to 29-11 midway through the half and led, 43-29, at halftime.
Fresno State 74, Oregon State 62--Carl Ray Harris and Seth Marshall sparked a late rally by the Bulldogs, combining for all but two points in a 23-6 run over the final eight minutes at Fresno.
Harris had 21 points and Marshall 19 for Fresno State (3-3). Stephane Brown led Oregon State (1-4) with 21 points.
Northeastern Illinois 78, Arizona State 75--Marcus West scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Golden Eagles at Tempe, Ariz.
Arizona State (2-3) opened a 25-9 lead nine minutes into the game. But West got the Golden Eagles back into the game, scoring six points in a 12-0 run late in the first half.
Idaho 71, Washington 55--Mark Leslie scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the second half to lead the Vandals at Seattle.
Orlando Lightfoot scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Idaho (5-2). Washington is 0-4.
Wisconsin Green Bay 66, Oregon 46--Ben Berlowski and Jeremy Ludvigson scored 12 points each to lead the Phoenix (5-3) at Green Bay, Wis. Oregon (1-4) made only 28.6% of its shots (14 of 49) and had 15 turnovers.
