VENTURA : Anti-Smoking Law to Be Considered
The Ventura City Council today is scheduled to consider a strict ban that would prohibit smokers from lighting up in virtually all indoor public places and businesses except for bars. Outdoor sports stadiums, theaters and outside restaurant seating would also be off-limits.
The council was scheduled to discuss the ban last week, but delayed it after another public hearing ran long into the evening.
The ban would allow hotels to offer smoking rooms as long as they are separately heated and ventilated, but some hotel owners say it would cost too much to install such systems.
Ventura County and the cities of Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and Ojai have passed similar anti-smoking laws.
