Nine Keys Sets Record in Winning the Rampart
Nine Keys overtook favored Educated Risk in the last strides Saturday to win the $200,000 Rampart Handicap at
Nine Keys’ time of 1:42 for the 1 1/16 miles under Mike Smith broke the stakes record of 1:43 set by Charon in 1991. The 4-year-old daughter of Forty Niner paid $8.80, $3.20 and $2.20. Educated Risk paid $2.40 and $2.10. Traverse City paid $2.40.
Nine Keys, bred by owner Martha Gerry in partnership with Claiborne Farm, won four of six starts last year and has earned $223,810.
