New Jobless Claims Dip Slightly: The number of Americans filing new claims for state unemployment benefits fell slightly last week for the second consecutive week, the Labor Department said. Claims fell to 366,000 in the week ended May 21 from 367,000 the previous week, above Wall Street economists’ forecasts of 361,000. The department’s closely watched four-week moving average, which is considered a more accurate indicator of jobless trends, posted a gain. The average climbed to 366,750 last week, up from a revised 359,250 in the week ended May 14. The department said the last time the average was that high was in the week ended Feb. 19, when it stood at 375,000.
