Two people were rescued off the jagged rocks of Anacapa Island nearly an hour after their 24-foot pleasure boat ran aground and they abandoned ship early Sunday, U. S. Coast Guard officials said.

Frederick M. Knapp, 47, of Oxnard and Mary G. James, 47, of Camarillo clung to the rocks until about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, when a Coast Guard helicopter spotted them and transported them to Goleta Valley Hospital.

The two were treated for minor injuries and released, a hospital official said.

The craft, Miss Jolene, ran aground about 1:40 a.m. Sunday as Knapp was attempting to set anchor. A Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched from Los Angeles and a 41-foot rescue boat was launched from the Channel Islands Harbor moments after Knapp reported the mishap.

On Sunday, the Coast Guard said the boat remained stuck on the rocks, awaiting a salvage operation to be arranged by Knapp.
