Harvey Mudd College has announced that its five-year capital campaign raised nearly $75.5 million--$5.5 million above its goal.

The campaign raised about $120,000 per student. Harvey Mudd College has 630 students.

“We are extremely gratified to have met, and exceeded, our goal,” said college President Henry E. Riggs. “Five years ago, we initiated a major effort to expand the college’s curriculum, increase the number of faculty, enroll more students and build new facilities. To achieve those ambitious goals required an ambitious fund-raising campaign.”

Planning for the campaign began in 1989, but the major, public fund-raising effort was not kicked off until 1992, he said.

As part of the campaign, the college added two new majors, biology and computer science. The college also hired 17 more faculty members, increased enrollment by 15%, built two academic buildings, added a wing to the Parsons Engineering Building, renovated the Jacobs Science Center and built a dorm.
