Hopes for finding more survivors buried in the blast rubble of Argentina’s main Jewish community center dwindled Wednesday as 76 people were missing and feared dead.

Two days after Monday’s bomb explosion razed the building, the number of known dead hit 39 as Argentine and Israeli rescue workers pulled four corpses out of the wreckage and a hospitalized survivor died.

Gen. Meir Zamir, the military attache at Israel’s embassy here, said the type and amount of explosive used is still unknown.

President Carlos Saul Menem and Jewish leaders say the attack looks like the work of Islamic extremists, and Israeli officials have pointed the finger at Iran and its allies in Lebanon.
