Police Detonate Sylmar Pipe Bomb

Share

A pipe bomb was detonated by the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad early Friday morning after it was found in a residential neighborhood in Sylmar, authorities said.

The 4-inch bomb--made out of PVC pipe with caps on both ends--was found by a resident of the 12000 block of Bradley Avenue about 6 a.m., police said. Neither the resident’s name nor the exact location of the bomb was released by authorities.

“They evacuated the whole block for a few hours,” said Officer Sandra Castello, adding that the pipe bomb was then taken and destroyed by the bomb squad.

Nobody was injured, police said. There are no suspects or motive in the case, and the investigation is continuing.

“There have been a string of these bombs being found in our division,” said Lt. Joe Hiltner of the LAPD’s Foothill Division. “This is just the latest.”
