SIMI VALLEY : Home Toxic Waste Collection Scheduled

Share

Simi Valley residents seeking to get rid of batteries, paint, furniture polish and other toxic trash can drop off such garbage at a free Hazardous Waste Roundup.

Residents must make an appointment for the one-day event, scheduled for Oct. 1. About 1,500 requests for appointments will be accepted, on a first-come, first-served basis.

“There are limited disposal methods out there for this type of waste,” said Pat Pieres, Simi Valley’s solid waste programs analyst. “We always fill up.”

Hazardous waste will be accepted from residents of Simi Valley and nearby communities in unincorporated Ventura County.

The 6-year-old program is part of the city’s effort to comply with state regulations that call for a reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Other waste that will be accepted at the roundup includes antifreeze, household cleaners, pool chemicals, insecticides, fertilizer, photographic chemicals and fluorescent light tubes.

No commercial or business hazardous waste will be accepted.

To make an appointment, call the city’s Environmental Services Department at 583-6321.
