New Crime Laws

Share

Why is it necessary that every time the media have a crime du jour our elected representatives feel the need to posture in front of the cameras and tell us they have a new law which will stop this specific crime? These windbags ignore the fact that there are laws already on the statute books to deal with these crimes under their generic names. (A drive-by shooting is assault with a deadly weapon, a gang reprisal is murder one, etc.)

There is no desperate need for new laws. We need the judicial system to carry out the spirit and letter of the existing laws.
