GLENDALE : Parents Raise Money to Open Playground
After a year of scrimping and saving for their children, parents at Mark Keppel Elementary School in Glendale next week will celebrate the dedication of a new playground.
The parents’ yearlong fund-raising drive netted more than $40,000 needed to open the playground at the campus on 730 Glenwood Road. The playground will be dedicated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The public is invited to attend.
The playground equipment replaces asphalt as a play area. The fund-raising drive was spearheaded by Make Keppel Special, a nonprofit organization run by teachers, staff and parents.
Donations for the new playground came from parents, corporations such as Home Savings, and the Glendale Unified School District, according to Brian Ellis, chairman of Make Keppel Special.
During the last four years, Make Keppel Special has raised more than $50,000 for projects that include science classes, library expansion and remodeling, art supplies and computers.
