Orange County Almanac
The Roaring ‘20s were a decade of dramatic growth for La Habra.
The area’s booming oil industry and productive farms lured many families to the city. Avocados became a large crop, and farmers built terraces in the hills to plant these trees. The various oil fields and processing stations also provided hundreds of jobs.
A major downtown developed along Central Avenue, now La Habra Boulevard. The city incorporated in 1925, a few years after the First Bank of La Habra was chartered.
The Great Depression ended the development boom in the 1930s. La Habra didn’t begin to see significant growth again until after World War II.
