EU Television Decision Unlikely This Year: The European Union is unlikely to decide this year what to do about limits on imported films shown on television in member countries, Culture Commissioner Marcelino Oreja said. Oreja told the European Parliament that a decision is out of the question when culture ministers next meet June 21 and very unlikely at their November session. The European Commission, the policy-setting arm of the EU, has proposed making it compulsory for TV channels to devote 51% of their screen time to European productions for 10 years. Many EU members have said they oppose the plan.
