WHITTIER : Ousted Appointee Wins School Board Post
Voters have elected Whittier College library clerk Nelda Fodor to a vacant seat on the Whittier City District School Board.
The school board originally had appointed Fodor to fill the seat, but she was forced to step down after a citizens’ group collected enough petition signatures to force a special election Tuesday. The election cost about $120,000, officials said.
Fodor, 43, received 1,116 votes, or 49% of the total. Elementary school teacher Ted Saulino, 55, who led the effort to force a special election, finished second with 998 votes, or 44%. The third candidate, Liam D. Cowan, an assistant principal of a state juvenile facility, received 164 votes, or 7%.
Fodor will serve until November, 1997. She fills a vacancy created when Rosaura A. Aguerrebere resigned.
