A bicycle-riding robber held up a Ventura bank Wednesday before escaping and allegedly stopping at a beachside pizzeria for a beer, authorities and witnesses said.

Witnesses told police that the robber rode up to the Bank of A. Levy in the 2400 block of Harbor Boulevard about 4:30 p.m. and stashed his bicycle in the bushes before going inside.

FBI officials assisting Ventura police declined to say how much money was taken or release other details of the robbery.

Ventura police said they had a man in custody Wednesday afternoon whom they were questioning about the crime but would not say if he was a suspect.

Meanwhile, workers at the Beachside Pizzeria on South Seaward Avenue said the man police arrested across the street from their restaurant was the same heavily tattooed man who had come in to have a beer on the patio.

“He only came in for a few minutes,” waitress Nicole Sullivan said. “He didn’t seem nervous. The police were in questioning us soon after that.”
