COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Concordia Splits Doubleheader With UC San Diego in Softball

Concordia scored a run in the bottom of the 13th inning for an 8-7 victory over UC San Diego in the first game of a nonconference softball doubleheader Wednesday.

Kelsi Armbruster (3-4) pitched all 13 innings for Concordia (13-20).

After San Diego scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score, 2-2, the teams each scored one run in the ninth and 10th innings, two runs in the 11th inning and one run in the 12th before Concordia finally broke the tie.

Debbie Smith was three for three and Lynn Ashley was two for four with two doubles in San Diego’s 7-4 victory in the second game.

In other nonconference softball:

Long Beach State 2-0, CS Northridge 1-3--Kristyn Frady and Nina Lindberg each hit a home run for Long Beach State (23-20) in the first game of a doubleheader. Amy Miner improved to 10-5.

Kathy Blakesmall pitched a two-hit shutout in the second game for Northridge (29-12). Chelo Lopez was two for three for Northridge.

In men’s nonconference tennis:

Fresno State 7, UC Irvine 0--Fredrik Bergh defeated UC Irvine’s Chris Tontz, 6-2, 6-4.
