YORBA LINDA : Council OKs Athletic Fields Improvements

Share

A plan to improve several athletic fields at Yorba Linda Middle School has been approved by the City Council, and awaits approval by the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District governing board.

The two agencies must also conclude a joint-use agreement for the project to build two lighted baseball-softball fields, a soccer field, a snack bar and restroom on school property next to Valley View Sports Park.

For awhile, it looked as if the project might be in jeopardy because funding for the project was to come from bond sale proceeds invested in the county’s collapsed pool. But city officials assured the council that the money for the $500,000 project is available, although the improvements will probably be made in stages.

If approved by the school district, the city will pay for the improvements and the two agencies will maintain the fields.

Councilman Gene Wisner opposed the project, saying the city should not spend money unnecessarily until it recovers all of its funds from the county.
