Southland Home Sales Off in 1st Quarter: Sales dropped 16% this year compared to the same period last year, TRW Redi Property Data said. A slowing economy and higher interest rates caused the downturn, the real estate information company said. Sales were down 6.7% in Los Angeles County, 26.2% in Orange County, 31% in San Diego County, 18.3% in San Bernardino County, 13.6% in Riverside County and 9.6% in Ventura County. TRW Redi said that higher mortgage rates are having a more negative impact on the move-up market and that activity was relatively stable among entry-level buyers.
