Israel announced Sunday that it is issuing 3,000 more entry permits to Palestinian workers, raising to 29,750 the number of laborers from the Gaza Strip and West Bank allowed into the country.

About 60,000 Palestinians worked in Israel before it imposed an entry ban in January following an Arab suicide bombing that killed 21 Israelis at Beit Lid, north of Tel Aviv.

The ban has been relaxed gradually amid complaints of economic hardship by Palestinians in self-ruled Gaza and Jericho and in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

An Israeli official said Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin had approved the 3,000 additional permits for married Palestinian men older than 30. Israel regards younger men as higher security risks.
