Badly Injured Cyclist Airlifted to Hospital
A Carpinteria man was seriously injured when he lost control of his bicycle late Tuesday afternoon and crashed on a closed private road near Casitas Springs, the California Highway Patrol said.
Mike Forkash, 43, was airlifted by a Ventura County sheriff’s helicopter to Ventura County Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition late Tuesday evening, said nursing supervisor Denise Stewart.
Forkash, an avid cyclist, according to his mother, Rose Forkash, was riding up Sulphur Mountain Road, which is closed about two miles after it branches off from California 33, said CHP dispatcher Claude Bell.
The accident was reported around 6 p.m. by an unidentified person on a cellular phone, and the sheriff’s helicopter was called to the scene shortly thereafter, Bell said.
