COMPTON : Council Imposes Fees on Proposed Card Casino
The City Council upped the ante Tuesday for developers planning to build a card casino, adding hundreds of thousands of dollars in city fees.
Under the new plan, which the council approved on a 4-0 vote, developer Compton Entertainment Inc. will pay $250,000 when the club opens and $125,000 a month until then.
Councilwoman Yvonne Arceneaux, a longtime card casino opponent, abstained from voting.
The council also approved a new license that formally includes Hollywood Park in the deal.
Hollywood Park will lease the the city-owned nine-story hotel off the Redondo Beach (91) Freeway for 50 years, starting at $600,000 a year, and buy the attached convention center for $2 million. Hollywood Park will then lease part of the hotel to Compton Entertainment for the card club.
