NATIONAL LEAGUE ROUNDUP : It Takes Time, but Mets Exploit Drabek

It took nearly three years, but New York got to Doug Drabek in a big way Thursday night.

Bobby Bonilla hit his fifth home run and two other Mets had two runs batted in apiece in an 8-1 rout of the Astros at Houston.

Drabek (1-3) had not lost to the Mets since Oct. 2, 1992, and was 4-0 with a 2.38 earned-run average in six starts against New York since coming to the Astros in 1993. He lasted only four innings, yielding seven hits, five earned runs and walking five.

Rookie Dave Mlicki (2-0) gave up five hits in seven innings and lowered his ERA to 1.40.

Atlanta 3, Colorado 2--Javier Lopez hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the Braves at Atlanta.

With the score tied 1-1, David Justice singled off loser Mike Munoz (0-1) to open the seventh. Ryan Klesko struck out, but Steve Reed relieved and gave up Lopez’s fourth homer.

Greg McMichael (3-0) yielded an eighth-inning home run to Larry Walker, his sixth, cutting the lead to 3-2. Mark Wohlers allowed runners to reach first and second in the ninth before Pedro Borbon got the last out for his second save, retiring Walker on a fly ball to the wall in left.

St. Louis 4, San Francisco 2--Bernard Gilkey hit a run-scoring double in the 10th inning and Ray Lankford added a sacrifice fly to help the Cardinals end a three-game losing streak with a comeback at San Francisco.

Barry Bonds homered for the second consecutive game.

Pinch-hitter Darnell Coles led off the 10th with a nubber that was booted by loser Steve Frey (0-1). Gilkey followed with a double, and Lankford drove in Gilkey two batters later.
