The eighth named tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season formed Tuesday but was several days away from any land.

The storm, dubbed Humberto, was centered about 750 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands off Africa and was moving west-northwest about 15 m.p.h. Forecasters expected it would gradually turn toward the northwest. Humberto’s strongest steady wind blew at 50 m.p.h.

Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Felix was racing northeastward in the Atlantic at about 48 m.p.h., centered 255 miles east of Cape Race, Newfoundland. Its sustained wind was down to 60 m.p.h.
