Teamsters Finish Ratification of Car-Hauler Contract: The Teamsters union announced it approved a master contract with the major car-hauling companies that will go into effect immediately. The four-year agreement, which covers 12,000 Teamsters, will be retroactive to May 21. Approval of the contract had been delayed pending ratification of a supplemental agreement covering about 1,000 workers in the union’s “driveaway” unit--mainly those who drive large commercial trucks from manufacturers to dealerships. Issues in the dispute included pay, benefits and the hauling companies’ use of nonunion subsidiaries.
