Share

A truckload of food items including canned meats, boxed rice and fresh vegetables will be distributed free to eligible senior citizens and disabled adults in Echo Park this morning.

Senior citizens and disabled adults who reside in Echo Park, downtown Los Angeles, Elysian Park, Chinatown and Lincoln Heights are eligible to receive the food, which will be given out near the lotus pond at Glendale Boulevard and Park Avenue.

Individuals should bring proof of their eligibility, including Medi-Cal cards or documents showing that they are on disability or welfare programs.

The monthly distribution, which starts at 9 a.m., is sponsored by the Central Community Service Inc., an Echo Park-based nonprofit group that provides health and social services for senior citizens.

The group receives about 400 pounds of food each month from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, which collects products donated by grocery stores and restaurants.
