Colleges : Campus scene : Student Group OKs Really Big Sculpture
A giant African elephant may soon nestle under trees in the middle of Cal State Fullerton’s campus.
The university’s Associated Students Board of Directors approved a proposal for a two-ton sculpture depicting the university’s mascot.
The monument would be a focus for school spirit, campus officials said.
Sculptor Bob Berry, a wildlife artist known for his gorilla sculptures at the San Diego Zoo, has been chosen to create Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Monument.
The cost of the project, about $110,000, would be covered by the sale of miniatures of the statue in two sizes at $300 or $1,000 each. The Titan Monument Fundraising Committee will ask corporations, the community and alumni to help with the campaign.
