Restrooms to Be Built in North Central Park

After years of asking the county for the money, Mayor Duane Schuster was notified this week that the city is getting $50,000 to help build new restrooms in Central Park.

Public Works Director Ismile Noorbaksh said the addition will be on the northwest side of the park, where there are no facilities now.

“There is a restroom now on the south side of the park, adjacent to the recreation building,” he said. “However, where the ball players play on the northwest side of the park, there are no restrooms.”

Noorbaksh said the county funds will be added to about $20,000 in a city community development account to pay for the new restrooms and likely will be included in the 1996-97 city budget.

Construction would start this fall, Noorbaksh said.

Dean Olsen, executive assistant to County Supervisor William G. Steiner, presented a large, mock check to Schuster at the council’s meeting.

He suggested jokingly that the City Council name the new restrooms in honor of Schuster because the mayor worked so hard to get the funding.

“Schuster came down and put the press on” county government for the grant, he said, which will come from the county’s urban park fund.
