Teachers Group Awards Scholarships

Six high school students were recently named as scholarship winners by the Irvine Teachers Assn.

Three Carrie Valderrama Memorial Scholarships were awarded to high school seniors who have been accepted to a four-year university. The scholarships are limited to the children of Irvine Teachers Assn. members.

Mission Viejo High School student Julee DeRoche won a $500 scholarship; Woodbridge High School student Gabriela Santos-Meany and Irvine High student Lara Lanphier were each awarded $150.

Two Irvine Teachers Assn. scholarships were awarded to seniors who have been accepted to a four-year university and are seeking careers in education.

Woodbridge High School student Cathryn Harvey received $500; University High School student Courtney Ball was awarded $200.

The $250 Venture Scholarship, awarded to a senior who plans to attend a community college or vocational training, was given to SELF High School student Claudia Nunes. Winners will be honored June 4 at Irvine Unified School District headquarters.
