Wynn’s International Sells Unit in Texas
Automotive additives maker Wynn’s International Inc. said it has sold its ailing automotive air-conditioning systems unit for $25 million.
Under the deal, Moog Automotive Inc. will acquire the Wynn’s Climate Systems manufacturing plant in Fort Worth and lease other facilities. Moog is a unit of Houston-based Cooper Industries Inc.
The air-conditioner subsidiary employs about 250 people, mainly in Texas. It has been losing about $1.5 million a year for several years.
James Carroll, Wynn’s chairman, said the air-conditioner business no longer fits with Wynn’s focus. The company’s other divisions, which produce automotive additives, seals and gaskets, and hardware for the home building industry, are profitable.
Wynn’s posted a $15.4-million profit on sales of $303.8 million last year. The company said it will take an after-tax charge of about $1.5 million--16 cents a share--in the 1996 second quarter because of the sale.
Wynn’s International stock closed at $27.50 Friday, down 12.5 cents in moderate trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
