Police are asking the public for assistance in the search for a gunman who robbed a local bank Monday morning.

The man, wearing a dark motorcycle helmet and waving a blue steel handgun, escaped on foot from the World Savings Bank at 6902 Warner Ave. with an undisclosed amount of money, police Sgt. Barry Case said.

The man entered through the bank’s west door about 9:45 a.m. and ordered the tellers to empty their drawers, Case said.

He stuffed the money into a chrome attache case, then walked toward a Ralph’s grocery store next door.

Witnesses described the man as white, about 5 feet, 10 inches with medium build and long blond hair that hung below his helmet, Case said.

The robber was wearing a dark-colored, buttoned shirt, stone-washed jeans and thin, metallic sunglasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at (714) 960-8809.
