Police Close Festival After Shootings
Police swarmed the streets in riot gear and closed a Latino festival in the nation’s capital after random violence escalated into gunfire that injured three teenagers in two separate shootings. The 26th Annual Festival Latino evolved from a series of minor fistfights to gunshots, said Sgt. Joe Gentile, spokesman for District of Columbia police. The first shooting happened about 5:15 p.m., when an altercation led to two teenagers being shot. A 23-year-old man was charged in that incident. About 45 minutes later and a few blocks away, a 15-year-old girl was shot, Gentile said. Two men were arrested in that shooting.
