“Normally, $1,000 doesn’t make a great difference in a person’s life, but at a community college it can make a huge difference, enabling a person to attend college and attain a successful career,” Hafif said.

A product of a California two-year college, Hafif attended Pomona College on a scholarship and graduated magna cum laude in 1953. three years later, he graduated from USC Law School.

The National Law Journal has named him one of the country’s most influential lawyers.

Joining Hafif at the 7 p.m. ceremony will be Valley College President Tyree Wieder, Edward Sugar, president of the college’s Patron Assn., and Jay Rodriguez, president of the Hafif Family Foundation.

The foundation provides the same scholarship program at three other two-year colleges, Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, and Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana.

The Hafif Family Foundation also provides grants to numerous charitable programs in Southern California.
