Drunk Driving Suspect Arrested in Fatal Accident

A 23-year-old Fullerton woman was killed Sunday while riding with her family when a man police say they suspect of drunk driving ran a stoplight while speeding and struck her car.

Police would not release her name. The woman’s husband, Jose Limas, 34, and her children, a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, were taken to Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim and later released.

Police said they were told by witnesses that Walter Romine, 52, of Buena Park ran several red lights along Commonwealth Avenue while traveling east at about 60 mph in a pickup truck before running into the Limas’ sedan.

Romine struck the passenger door of the sedan after allegedly driving through a red light at Commonwealth and Highland avenues about 7 p.m. in front of the city’s police station, Sgt. Neil Baldwin said.

“It appears he never even touched his brakes,” Baldwin said.

The family was traveling south on Highland Avenue on a green light when the accident occurred, he said.

Romine was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was treated for head injuries. Police said he will be arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving.
