Irvine Sensors Corp. said Wednesday it has received an $890,000 contract to develop a credit card-sized digital camera for the Navy, the first research and development pact for the company’s new digital imagery unit.

Company officials said the camera will utilize various Irvine Sensors products. The Costa Mesa company specializes in high density, miniaturized electronics.

Once developed, the miniature camera would have commercial applications in law enforcement, security and traffic monitoring, said John C. Carson, senior vice president.
