Vince Carbone; Personal Agent for Musicians, Comedians

Vince Carbone, 74, tenor saxophonist with big bands who became a personal agent for musicians and comedians. Born in Jersey City, N.J., Carbone studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Drafted into the Army, he performed with the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band in England, France and Germany during World War II. Afterward, Carbone joined the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra and became personal manager for Tommy Dorsey. After scheduling the band’s international tours for several years, he settled in Los Angeles, working for the personal management firm Gerard Purcell Associates. Carbone managed musicians Eddy Arnold, Al Hirt, Hugo Montenegro, Bobby Vinton and Frank Sinatra Jr., and such comedians as Bob Newhart and the Smothers Brothers. As a licensed pilot, Carbone worked in the search and rescue unit of the Civil Air Patrol and was active in the Confederate Air Force, which aids underprivileged children and preserves historical aircraft.
