Paula Jones

Re “The Sexual Harassment Merry-Go-Round,” Commentary, July 16: Susan Carpenter McMillan fails to mention that the National Organization for Women attempted to contact Paula Jones to offer support and help after her accusations against President Clinton surfaced. They were promptly turned down. Patricia Ireland, president of NOW, personally offered to help Jones. According to NOW communications director Diane Minor, “She seemed to dismiss Ireland’s availability rather disdainfully.”

I’ve no doubt that there is plenty of hypocrisy in the Jones case. But the continually advanced notion that feminists turned their backs on Jones is nothing more than one of many big lies emanating from the likes of McMillan.

* Perhaps McMillan would like to inform readers exactly who pays her to be “official spokesperson for Paula Corbin Jones”?

* Comparing Jones to Anita Hill as evidence that feminists are biased against Republicans is unfair. Hill did not go alone to her boss’ hotel room hoping to get a promotion.
