Cookie Creator Reclaims Fair Title And the winner is . . . Patsey Reed. Again.

For the second time in three years, Reed has been chosen by a panel of three children as preparing the tastiest and prettiest cookies in the Orange County Fair’s Grandma’s Cookie Contest.

Reed, 54, who became eligible for the contest when her first grandchild was born three years ago, was required to enter five cookies. The Irvine resident baked a sugar cookie, an M&M; cookie, a sugar cookie shaped like a pig, a chocolate cookie shaped like a piece of sushi, and a cherry cookie.

“There were two that were outstanding: the pig and the sushi,” Reed said.

In keeping with the fair’s tropical theme, Reed said, she dreamed up the sushi cookie while flipping through an Asian cookbook. She created the chocolate and coconut cookie with a pistachio in the center.

The pig cookie was a basic sugar cookie cut and decorated to resemble a swine.

“I wanted something special for the fair,” Reed said. “I love to cook, and I love the fair. It’s Americana.”

Reed also won Best of Show in the Penchant for Pineapple contest and Best of Show in the Coconut Cookery Contest.

Reed’s daughter Karen Marquez, 34, won the Best Packed Suitcase competition, sponsored by United Airlines.
