Jupiter Communications, the New York-based new-media research firm that focuses on business aspects of the Internet, received an $8-million infusion last week from Gartner Group, the information technology consulting firm in Stamford, Conn.

Jupiter said it will use the money to expand its strategic planning services and fund international growth, and no changes in day-to-day management are expected at the company. Two Gartner executives--Michael Fleisher, president of emerging businesses, and John Neeson, senior vice president of worldwide marketing--were named to Jupiter’s board of directors.
