AML Communications’ Sales, Income Decline

Share

AML Communications in Camarillo reported a decrease in sales for the second quarter of fiscal 1998, accompanied by a sharp drop in net income from a year ago.

For the three-month period ended Sept. 30, net sales totaled $2.8 million. Although that was up slightly from first-quarter revenues, it was down considerably from the $3.9 million reported in the previous year’s second quarter.

Company officials said the quarter’s net income--$124,000 or 2 cents per share--was consistent with expectations. A year ago, AML reported net income of $718,000 or 11 cents per share.

Jacob Inbar, president and chief executive officer, said that despite the quarter’s numbers, “we are beginning to see the benefits of our new business strategy that targets original equipment manufacturers, both domestically and internationally, while we continue to develop new products to address the needs of the paging and cellular markets.”

Inbar said the quarter was marked by strong demand for multicarrier power amplifiers, specifically an order valued at $2.6 million from a manufacturer serving the South American wireless communications market. This contract followed earlier contracts for amplifier units to the South American market.

AML designs and manufactures amplifiers and repeaters for the cellular, paging and satellite communication markets.
