Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. has opened a design center in Portland.

The Portland Design Center is responsible for developing integrated circuits for the telecommunications market.

“Growth in the telecommunications market creates strong demand for Vitesse’s . . . integrated circuits,” said Bill Woodruff, director of telecommunications products. “In today’s growth climate, hiring additional highly skilled engineers is a challenge throughout the electronics industry, [but] establishing design centers where the designers are has proven to be an effective strategy for Vitesse.”

Gary McCormack, director of the Portland center, has more than 16 years’ experience in the semiconductor industry.
