Police arrested a bitter former soldier from Serbia on Thursday after he told reporters that he killed up to 80 Croats and Muslims, decapitating some and selling their ears as souvenirs.

Slobodan Misic, 50, said he came forward because he “had enough of the lies” that Serbia had not fought its neighbors.

Former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, now president of Yugoslavia, has always claimed that he had nothing to do with fighting in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“The truth has to be told,” Misic was quoted as saying in news reports.

Police in the southern Serbian town of Vranje, where Misic lives, said he was expected to be placed in investigative detention, where suspects can remain for weeks before they are formally charged.
