* Half Moon Bay-based Odwalla Inc. reported a fiscal second-quarter net loss of $274,000, or 5 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $3 million, or 61 cents, a year ago, which included a pretax charge of $102,000 for recall and related costs.

* Mountain View-based Vivus Inc. reported a wider-than-expected first-quarter loss of $2.39 million, or 7 cents per diluted share, contrasted with a profit of $9.5 million, or 27 cents, a year ago. The company attributed the loss to marketing costs related to its treatment for impotence.

* San Jose-based Atmel Corp. reported first-quarter net income of $17.7 million, or 18 cents per share, compared with $38.7 million, or 38 cents, a year ago.

* GTE Corp.’s New Media Services unit bought the www.Bigbook.Com domain--a yellow pages Web site--and rights to all BigBook trademarks and trade names from San Francisco-based BigBook Inc. for undisclosed terms. GTE said it intends to add features to the BigBook site, including electronic commerce capabilities with its Shop Online service.
