Urban Renewal Project Gets $1 Million in Federal Funds

A Harbor Gateway revitalization project has received $1 million in federal Housing and Urban Development funds to expand a free clinic and rehabilitate dilapidated commercial and residential properties.

The Harbor Gateway Targeted Neighborhood Initiative began last year to focus the city’s revitalization projects on renovating properties along Gardena Boulevard between Vermont and Estrella avenues.

“This federal funding, when combined with the in-kind contributions from the community and the city, is going to make a tremendous difference,” said Los Angeles City Councilman Rudy Svorinich, who represents the area.
