Three cheers for printing Gregg Butterfield’s essay on a long-overdue topic, “Big Brother Is Watching Us Shop” (Voices, April 18). He is not alone in his concern with this insidious invasion into our personal lives.

Several friends and I no longer patronize or even glance at advertisements of markets utilizing this gimmick.

What has been surprising is the reticence of our free American press. This subject deserves to be exposed to protect our daily lives. It’s been a tough job sifting through a lot of junk to find this treasure from Butterfield.
