Free CSUN Forum to Question the Judges

Share

Community members and students with an interest in the judicial system will have a chance to question Los Angeles County judges at a public forum Wednesday at Cal State Northridge.

A panel from the Van Nuys and San Fernando Superior and Municipal courts will answer questions about their role, sentencing, rulings, juries, trials and other aspects of the court system at “Cross-Examine Your Los Angeles County Judges,” a forum sponsored by CSUN’s political science department.

“This forum provides a different venue from the courtroom for the public and judges to meet each other,” said Sylvia Snowess, CSUN political science professor, who will moderate the forum.

“The judicial branch of the government has greater impact on an individual than the legislative and the executive branches, and yet the public has very few ways of finding out about how it works,” Snowess said.

Leon Bennett, president of the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn., will field questions on the bar and the legal system, Snowess said.

The free public forum will run from 7 to 9 p.m. in the University Student Union Grand Salon room, on the east side of campus, 18111 Nordhoff St.

Parking is available for $1.75 in Lot C, near the corner of Zelzah Avenue and Plummer Street.
