Annual AIDS Walk Is Scheduled for June 7 at UC Irvine
The 12th annual AIDS Walk Orange County is set for June 7 at UC Irvine’s Mesa Field.
Organizers said the event has raised more than $3 million since 1987. They are expecting more than 13,000 people to participate this year.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 8:45 a.m. and the walk at 9:30 a.m.
“AIDS Walk is truly a special event,” Chairwoman Janice Johnson said. “It draws people together regardless of age, race, gender or religious background in the fight against HIV. AIDS Walk fosters a greater level of understanding and support for those suffering from HIV or AIDS.”
Pearl Jemison-Smith, founding board member of AIDS Walk Orange County, will serve as co-chair. “Unfortunately, the AIDS epidemic is far from over,” Jemison-Smith said.
