Boy’s Death

Share

Re “Inquest Is Urged After Boy Dies in Foster Care,” April 21:

When 9-year-old Jonathan Reid was taken out of his home by social workers from the Department of Children and Family Services, he missed his mother so badly that he was soon “diagnosed as depressed and suicidal.” Instead of being allowed access to his momma, he was institutionalized and given antidepressant medication. A few weeks later he was dead, and no one can tell his mother, Debra Reid, how or why her little boy died.

As Debra Reid continues to try to regain custody of another son who is in the care of the same agency, she faces allegations that she is hostile and uncooperative toward them. Given the department’s apparent priorities, I’d guess her remaining son won’t be permitted to go home until Reid shows the proper respect.
