ISRAEL : Netanyahu Letter Not a Ploy, Official Says

An official in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed a report in the newspaper Haaretz that Netanyahu sent a letter about Middle East peace moves to the CIA, but he denied that the aim of the March correspondence was to bypass Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Albright, who would be the usual diplomatic channel for such a letter, has been the most outspoken U.S. official in demanding compromise from Israelis and Palestinians, whose peace talks have been deadlocked for more than a year.
